Technologies used

The challenge

Getting a multi-country workforce the information and tools they actually need in the field

Engie's employees across six Subsaharan African countries needed a fast way to reach maintenance data, support resources and internal updates, without installing another app on top of everything else they already use. The technicians installing solar panels faced a harder problem: long stretches with no signal at all while still needing to log jobs and customer data. On the backend, Engie's CRM, customer support and notification systems ran independently of each other, which meant a lot of manual work just to keep information in sync. Martin Anev, founder of Apptimist Studio, was brought in as part of a wider team to architect and build these systems from the ground up.

Our solution

One connected system built around how the teams actually work

1. AI chatbot on WhatsApp
Martin built a chatbot that lets employees in every country ask questions about maintenance procedures, support tickets and internal resources straight from WhatsApp, an app they already use daily. There's nothing new to install and nothing new to learn.

2. Offline-first CRM for field teams
Martin architected the Android app used by solar panel technicians to work almost entirely without an internet connection. Jobs, site data and customer updates get captured locally and sync automatically once a connection is available again.

3. A single API gateway
Instead of each backend system operating on its own, Martin connected CRM, customer support and notifications through one gateway, so data moves between them automatically.

The results

A workforce that isn't held back by connectivity

  • Employees across six countries can get maintenance and internal information in seconds, using an app already installed on their phones.

  • Field technicians keep working through long stretches without signal, and their data catches up automatically once they're back online.

  • Engie's CRM, support and notification tools now function as a single system rather than three separate ones needing manual upkeep.

Simple enough that no one needs training

Employees get maintenance and support information straight from WhatsApp, an app they already use every day, so there's no login to remember and no new app to learn.

Offline by design

The app was built offline-first from day one, so field technicians can capture jobs and customer data without signal, syncing automatically once they're back online.

One gateway, not three silos

CRM, customer support and notifications now run through a single connected system instead of three.
